The DCRC team are variously taking holiday and engaging in research activities away from desks and so we are offering an overview of some of our summertime activities in this post. Normal service for weekly blogging will return in September.

Jet-setting, translating research, city strata and experimental theatre (weeks ending 30032012 06042012)

The weeks leading up to Easter bring the end of term at UWE, the announcement of the first cohort of REACT projects, under the heritage sandbox scheme, and the introduction of our teaching pages on the DCRC website. The 30th of March marks the end of the 134th week and the 6th of April the end of the 135th week of the DCRC.  This fortnight note, a double week note, provides an overview of the DCRC's activites between 26th March and Easter (8th April).

Research into practice (week ending 16032012)

While fending off some seasonal bugs, the DCRC has maintained momentum in our various forms of ongoing research and its translation into the classroom. Week 132 has brought incremental steps with the activities of the REACT hub, with both producers now ensconced in the studio, and with the Fusion lab. 132 is a refactorable number and in November last year it was reported that 132 councils had 'lost' personal data between 2008 and 2011.

Cutting edge media research translated into teaching practice

As well as the DCRC 'Fusion Lab' collaboration with the BBC, our close working relationship with the Pervasive Media Studio continues to offer a wide range of opportunities for our students to engage with live projects in the field of innovation in creative technology.

A week of Fusion (week ending 17022012)

The week ending 17th February saw the ongoing application of DCRC research in teaching made manifest in the Pervasive Media Studio through the Fusion labs and Masters level teaching. The week is the 128th of DCRC's activity. As many will know, 128-bit key size encryption is a common form of security across the internet, not least in IP v.6, and ASCII includes definitions for 128 characters.
