The attempt to record social reality has been completely swallowed by the impulse to simulate social reality in performative models. Factual television practices have by and large abandoned empirical observation that rested upon the lack of relationship between observer and observed and replaced it with the observation of simulated situations that only exist because of the intervention of the TV production. Factual TV has moved from direct empirical observation to the observation of simulated social situations
