This research strand explores the practices, politics, publics and ethics of interactive, immersive and social media. In a context of the continuing rapid transformation of media cultures, an enquiry into the relationship between technology and cultural form is characterised by a critical and applied approach, with research that seeks to interrogate, intervene into and shape emerging practices.
Researchers address the implications of technologies and platforms such as Automation and AI, Social Media, Virtual and Augmented Reality, and Data, as they intersect with cultural forms including documentary, journalism, performance, literature, and film drama. Our research involves knowledge exchange with creative industries partners including BBC R&D, Guardian, Hachette and our frequent collaborator, Watershed.
Immersive media is also a key theme within DCRC’s Creative Economy Lab projects, and the subject of fellowships and commissions within Bristol and Bath Creative R&D and South West Creative Technology Network.
