Patterns in Practice Artist Residence

October 2023 – January 2024

We are pleased to introduce you to the Patterns in Practice resident, Craig Scott.  Craig is a composer, improvising guitarist and sound artist. Working with human performers, robotics, custom built digital and analogue hardware, his work reflects on the tension that exists between human and machine made music.

For this residency, Craig explored our evolving human relationship with technological appendages, its effect on personal and collective mental health, perception of reality and how we relate to our own bodies, tools and each other.

Run by UWE, alongside DCRC Member Erinma Ochu (they/them) Patterns in Practice is a research project exploring the cultures of machine learning practice across science, education, and the arts. It is led by the University of Sheffield and UWE Bristol in partnership with Watershed, funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council.

On 19th Jan 2024, there was an evening of improvised performance and conversation with composer, improvising guitarist and sound artist Craig Scott.
