Spoken Memories Project exhibit at Bristol Central Library

Every part of Bristol has a story to tell.
The Spoken Memories project exhibited 6th – 11th May 2023. The exhibition was a celebration of the experience and narratives of Bristol citizens for whom these places are important.
Spoken Memories was a UWE-funded research project led by Professor Shawn Sobers and Associate Professor Estella Tincknell. It was linked to Bristol’s History Commission, which was set up by Mayor Marvin Rees in response to the events and debates surrounding the Colston toppling. The commission is tasked with ensuring all of Bristol’s citizens feel their experiences and narratives are recognised in the stories the city tells about itself.
The audios from the project can be found on the Know Your Place website under the ‘oral histories’ tag, and portraits of the participants can be found on Josh Adam Jone’s website.
