Patrick Crogan is Associate Professor of Digital Cultures at UWE Bristol where he teaches and researches in media, technology and culture. He wrote Gameplay Mode (2011) and has published numerous pieces on video games, film, animation, automation and AI. He was an Automation Fellow for the South West Creative Technology Network in 2019-20 and edited Unboxing the Black Box (2020), a collection of contributions from his fellow Fellows. He led the Creative Territories AHRC research network on independent video game production and wrote its industry-facing report, The Good Hubbing Guide (2015). He collaborated with colleague Rik Lander and ChatBot programmer Phil D. Hall in the production of their AI-driven participatory theatrical show, I am Echoborg. Crogan is writing a book on philosopher Bernard Stiegler’s media theory for Routledge.
