Dr Steve Presence is an Associate Professor in Film Studies at UWE, whose work focuses on the film and television industries and on activist film culture. He has published widely in these fields, most recently Go West 2! Bristol’s Film and Television Industries (2022). He is a member of the AHRC’s Peer Review College, convenor of the Radical Film Network, and sits on the editorial boards of the Journal of Media Practice and Education and Frames Cinema Journal.
He has led several large research projects as Principal Investigator: including ‘UK Feature Docs‘ (2018-2021), ‘Sustaining Alternative Film Cultures’ (2015-18), and ‘Understanding Watershed’ (2017-18). He is currently working on an AHRC Follow-on Funding project with stakeholders in the documentary film industry.
Steve teaches on the BA Film Studies and MA Film and Television Industries.
