Darko Masnec

Darko Masnec is an associate resident working on a videogame project that is exploring the repetitive patterns and loops, emphasizing absurdity and vivid aesthetics. In parallel he works on a project exploring visualization of language through artistic and animation techniques, intertwining sensory experiences of taste and physicality, bridging themes of emotional oscillation between comfort and discomfort. 

Darko is an animator, filmmaker, and academic who specializes in animated film and video game theory, based both in Zagreb (Croatia) and Bristol. In 2017, he earned his PhD with a thesis on the “Zagreb School of Animated Film” and its application in video games.

His work is showcased internationally, including the award-winning animated film Salute to the Sun (2022). With a creative portfolio that spans animated films, video games, installations, and conceptual art, he brings a multifaceted approach to his practice. He is an associate professor at the Academy of Fine Arts in Zagreb, within the Department of Animated Film and New Media. In addition, he is a member of the advisory board for MyWorld and is a part the festival council of Animafest – the World Festival of Animated Film.
